Day, night, morning, afternoon, evening

I found this on a teaching listserv:

I need some ideas for teaching day, night, morning,
afternoon and evening. Those are hard concepts for
kindergartners, because they are kind of abstract.

I could not help but think that these are not really abstract concepts but are part of day to day life- not so hard to get kids into- instead of telling or teaching- how about asking?
